Justin Townes Earle cancels UK tour to go into rehab
Justin Townes Earle has cancelled his autumn tour of the UK and North America to enter a rehab facility after he was arrested for public intoxication and battery last week.
Earle, 28, the son of singer-songwriter Steve Earle, was due to arrive on November 1 for 10 shows in the UK and Ireland, in support of his new album Harlem River Blues.
“Earle is strongly committed to confronting his on-going struggle with addiction and thanks his family, friends and fans for their continued support through this difficult time,” said a statement from his publicists.
U.S. media reported that Earle was arrested and spent a night in jail after an altercation in a nightclub where he was performing in Indianapolis on September 16. He is due in court on October 19.
The publicists described the shows as “suspended” and said Earle “looks forward to resuming the tour”.
Cancelled UK gigs: Nottingham (Nov. 1), Bristol (Nov. 2), Brighton (Nov. 3), Liverpool (Nov. 6), London (Nov. 7), Sheffield (Nov. 8), Newcastle (Nov. 10), Edinburgh (Nov. 11), Belfast (Nov. 12), Dublin (Nov. 14).
